After reading the first essay in this series, I decided to start over and read the essays in chronological order. This is the first I’ve heard of the Adivasi, and I was prompted to do some minor research. Because Adivasi are treated so horribly, I was startled to learn that they have more autonomy than and are treated better than the Dalits.
I’ve seen some clips of films starring the "Indian Elvis" (deceased; I’ve forgotten his name). The films avoided showing any kissing or prolonged contact of any kind between the male and female stars, although the song lyrics can be quite suggestive. I wonder if this bizarre treatment of male-female relationships has any bearing on the ‘choice’ of rape as punishment for female ‘crimes’ that shouldn’t be crimes at all.
