This is a very well-written essay, thorough in its scope. I’ve seen reports that detail the immoral actions of Monsanto in collusion with the Indian government; but those reports didn’t include – which this essay does – the cost in human misery when widows and children have to take over the debt and the farming, and must quit their own occupations and dreams in order to do so. This essay gives an Understanding of the human tragedy.
Monsanto consistently lies to farmers worldwide. It omits telling farmers that Monsanto GM crops require irrigation; that the crop yield becomes lower with passing years; that entire monocultures can be eradicated due to one new pest, drought, or flood; that Monsanto’s biocides cause superpests and superweeds to rapidly evolve; that new Monsanto seeds must be bought each year; that farmers are required by contract to buy only Monsanto’s biocides; that Monsanto raises prices of seeds and biocides once it has a captive audience; that livestock that formerly grazed safely on harvested cotton plants will sicken and die from grazing on Bt cotton – and so forth.
Monsanto’s CEO and board of directors should be prosecuted for crimes against humanity and for outright international terrorism.
